The Salvation Army is an integral part of the Christian Church. The movement, founded in 1865 by William Booth, has spread from London, England, to many parts of the world.

Currently, The Salvation Army serves in 112 countries worldwide using about 175 languages, linking the preaching of the Gospel to several social works such as schools, hostels for homeless, hospitals, relief programs ofter disasters, etc.


The General, who is the international leader, works in London, at the International Headquarter. The General's task is to guide The Salvation Army and to set its goals. The General is elected by the
High Council formed by the Chief of the Staff all che Commissioners in active service and the Territorial leaders. He remains in charge for 5 years.
Since April 1st 2006, our General is Commissioner Shaw Clifton. His wife, Commissioner Helen Clifton, is the worldwide President of Women's Ministries.

The Chief of the Staff is a Commissioner, chosen by the General, who is the executive leaders and has the task to put in act the orders of the General of The Salvation Army and to coordinate the various departments of our organization .
Currently, the Chief of the Staff is, forthe first time in our history, a woman: Commissioner Robin Dunster.

International Secretaries assure the link and the communication between the International Headquarter and the Territories and Commands around the world. The International Secretary for the Europe Zone is Commissioner Hasse Kjellgren and the Secretary for Women's Ministries is Commissioner Christina Kjellgren.

In Italy , The Salvation Army operates since 1887. Italy is a Command dependent on the Europe Department. Since 2002 our Commanding Officer is
Lt. Colonel Massimo Paone and the National President of Women's Ministries is Lt. Col. Jane Moir Paone .
Since August 2007 our
Chief Secretary is Maj Massimo Tursi and the National Secretary President of Women's Ministries is Maj Anne Florence Cachelin Tursi

The Salvation Army churches are called "Corps". In Italy, we have 16 Corps, 14 outposts and 7 institutions.

The Salvation Army in Italy is member of Federazione delle Chiese Evangeliche (FCEI) and is one of the 10 Founder Churches of an Evangelical Hospital near Naples .
